WHO'S THE GREATEST FUNK BASS PLAYER #1 BOOTSY COLLINS

In this Series of Posts, I will Writing about the Artist's who are in My "Who's the Greatest Funk Bass Player" Poll. 

The Poll is over to the Right of the Blog, it has been Running for a Few Week's now, so if You haven't already Voted, Please do so!

In these Post's, I will write a few Facts, Figures, Stats and Interesting Stuff on the Artist in Question, I will also include a Playlist of their Greatest Songs.

I will Write a Post on each Artist, One Every Other Week! 

ARTIST NUMBER 1..............BOOTSY COLLINS

William Earl "Bootsy" Collins was Born on October 26th 1951 in Cincinnati Ohio USA.

He Formed his First Band in 1968, Called "The Pacemakers" with his Brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins (Guitar) Frankie "Kash" Waddy (Drums) and Phillipe "Soul" Wynn (Vocals), Wynn was Later the Lead Singer with "The Detroit Spinners"

From 1969 to 1971 they were the Back Up Band for James Brown.

By 1972 "Bootsy Collins" had joined George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic Bands, it was from this time, the Two began a Musical and Personal Friendship which has Lasted for Many Years!

Bootsy Collins Featured on about 5 Funkadelic Albums from 1975 to 1979:

1978...One Nation Under a Groove

He also Featured on 9 Parliament Albums from 1974 to 1978:

Bootsy Collins Formed 
"Bootsy Rubber Band" in 1976, that same Year the Debut Album was Released "Stretchin' Out"

He went on to Release a Total of 4 Albums between 1976 to 1979, under that Name!

In 1980 he Released 2 Albums, one Under His Own Name and Called "Ultrawave" and another by the Name of "The Sweat Band" and the Album was called the same!

A Further 2 Albums were Released under his own name in 1982 and 1988. Over the Years he has Released a Total of 23 Albums, Many of them Under Different Guises!

He has Worked with some of the Greats from the Funk World including: James Brown, George Clinton, 
Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Zapp, Roger Troutman, Deee-Lite, Bernie Worrell, Junie Morrison, Fred Wesley, just to Name a few!

WHO'S THE GREATEST FUNK BASS PLAYER!

My Last Music Post Concerned the Poll I am Running on "Greatest Soul Singer of All Time" (over to the Right of this Blog), I have now Finished Featuring All 11 Artists, one by one over about a 5 Month Period. 

At Present Marvin Gaye is Top of the List  with Al Green in Second Place, these 2 are my Top 2 Choices, apart from I would have had Al Green at the Top!

I am Very surprised there are No Votes for Eugene Record (Lead Singer with the Chi-Lites) I am Sure The Chi-lites will be Right near the Top of a "Soul Music Band" Poll.

Perhaps I will have a Poll for "The Top Soul Music Band of All-Time" sometime in the Future!

Anyway back to the Present, I have just Started a New Poll (to the Right of this Blog) on "Who's the Greatest Funk Bass Player" Please have a Vote (on Both Categories) after you have Finished Reading this Post, also Please Press the "Opinions" Button on Top left of Voting Widget to Leave Your Views!

There's some Great Bass Player's in the Poll, including:
Bootsy Collins, Mark Adams (of Slave), Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Louis Johnson (of the Johnson Brothers), Verdine White (of Earth Wind & Fire), Bernard Edwards (of Chic), Mark King (of Level 42), Larry Graham (of Sly & the Family Stone & Graham Central Station) and Victor Wooton (of SMV).

My Favorite Bassist (and got my Vote) is Mark Adams of Slave, who I saw Live in Concert back in 1984, Probably One of the Best Concert I have Seen, He was a Marvelous Bass Player, and the Stand Out Feature on Most of Slaves Great Track's!



I also saw Level 42 Live in Concert back Around 1985, again Mark King was Great and by Far the Best British Bassist of All-Time!

I will do the same with this Poll as my Previous one and Feature all the Artist's one by one (2 a Month) over the Coming Month's, I will Write a Bio with Fact's and Figure's concerning each of the Artist's, I will also include some of their Greatest Track's and Video's.

One Bassist worth Featuring now (I did not put in Poll for obvious Reasons) is Robert Gordon, he used to be Part of Gil Scott-Heron's Backing Band "Amnesia Express" during the 80's, I saw GSH live back in the Mid 80's, but he was Performing Solo.

Robert Gordon was Featured Playing Bass with GSH on his TV Special back in 1983 called "Black Wax", I have Featured this Program before on this Blog, but its worth another Mention.

FUNKY-SOUL-VINYLS CLASSIC SOUL AND FUNK ALBUMS OF THE 60's 70's and 80's # 7

In this Series of Posts, I will writing about a Particular Classic Soul/Funk Album from the 60's 70's and 80's

The one's that stand out in my Mind, as The Best Soul/Funk/Jazz/R&B Albums ever Released. All of them, I purchased as Vinyl many Years ago and also I have them on CD today.

You may have a Differing view (as we all do) on these Choices, but these are my Favorites!

NUMBER 7........ZAPP..........ZAPP

The Debut Album from Zapp was Released on 18th July 1980, it was called "Zapp" it was on the Warner Brothers Record Label and entirely Wrote by Roger Troutman, who also Produced the Album with "Bootsy Collins"


Roger Troutman and Zapp were originally part of George Clinton's Empire.


The Album followed shortly after the Number 2 Debut Single from Zapp "More Bounce to the Ounce" the Album went straight to Number 1 in the US Billboard R&B Albums Chart, and Number 19 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The Album was finally Released on "Warners" after some confusion because Prior to the Success of the Single, Zapp were going to Sign to George Clinton's Record Label "Uncle Jam Records" but after the Single being a Big Hit, Roger Troutman was offered more Money to stay at "Warners" and so his Friendship with "George Clinton" ended, in fact George Clinton Sued both Roger Troutman and Warners!


I don't know whether this Story is 100% as I have read a couple of different stories on the Net.

The Album had some Great Tracks, my Favorites were : obviously "More Bounce"  Be Alright and "Coming Home"

P-FUNK IN '78

A couple of great P-FUNK Albums came out in 1978, Funkadelic's "One Nation Under a Groove" and Bootsy Collins "Player of the Year"

One Nation was Funkadelic's 10th Album and released in September of 1978, and was their best selling Album of all time! it also featured Bootsy Collins on Bass!

Bootsy's "Player album" was his 3rd release in January '78, it also featured George Clinton on Production and Songwriting!

One man who featured on both albums was Junie Morrison, he was originally with the "Ohio Players" in the early '70's

My Favorite tracks from each Album are "One Nation" and "Bootzilla"
