They Released a Couple of Singles in 1959, without any Success!

They then Teamed up with Two other Friends, Marshall Thompson and Creadel "Red" Jones and the Quintet called themselves "The Hi-Lites"

They Released their First Single in 1964 "I'm So Jealous" which was a Moderate Hit.

That same Year of 1964 saw Clarence Johnson Leave the Band, and they were now a Quartet, they had a Few more Release's without any Success!

SERIOUS HEART PROBLEMS and ELECTRO MUSIC

The Date now is Late June 1987, the Final Week in June to be Precise, how can I remember this so easily, my Father had just Died the Previous week!

Ironically He Died the day before Father's Day!

I had Never had that Feeling before, I had known a few people who had Died, but Nobody that Close, and he was only 52 Years of Age!

I Felt Really Sorry for my Mother, she was only in her Middle 40's, I Remember Me & Susan used to try & Help out a lot back then, getting her Shopping in and taking her out to different Places and mainly making Sure she was not on her own a lot!

We also  helped her with the Funeral Arrangements etc, in one way I was Lucky because, Work Wise I was Self-Employed and did not Work for a while, so we Probably spent as much time around my Mother's House as we did our own!

I was 28 Years of Age by this Time and Never seen a Dead Body before, but I knew that I wanted to see My Old Man for One Last Time, so me and Susan went to the Chapel Of Rest, I think I actually went Twice!

I will Never Forget that Experience and we Decided that Our Kids were not going to see their Grandad like that, Since then I have only ever seen one other person like that, but He was an Exception, because He was a Great Man, Neighbour & Friend of ours, by the Name of George Bowles.

During that Week between the Death and Funeral of my Father, I found out a few things concerning why he had Died etc, as I have said previously my Mother was not a Person who told me that much, but it Turned out my Father had a More Serious Heart Problems, then she ever said!

In Year's to come, I was to find out a lot more Concerning my Father's Heart Problem's, as I was to Inherit Them, and to think this was after Susan (my Wife) had asked my Mother "Could Lee ever get this Heart Disease in the Future" and her Reply was "of Course he Cant"

====================================================================
As for some Music this week, something a bit Different this Week, Back in the Early 80's I used to Buy a Fair bit of Electro Music, this was Something a little different from Soul & Funk!

Some of my Favorites Artists were "Afrika Bambaataa" Jonzun Crew "Hashim" Planet Patrol" Warp 9 etc

There were some Great Tracks by Artists such as : Herbie Hancock "Arthur Baker" Freeez "Mantronix" Tyrone Brunson & Kraftwerk

I think by the Late 80's, Electro was just about Finished, but it was Great while it Lasted!

I found a Great Mix on YouTube by MusicalObsessions, have a Listen and if you like it Download it from Here

Here's the Full track Listing!

THE GREATEST SOUL SINGER OF ALL TIME....FRANKIE BEVERLY

In this Series of Posts, I will writing about the Artist's who are in My "Greatest Ever Soul Singer of All-Time" Poll.

The Poll is over to the Right of the Blog, it has been Running for a Few Month's now, so if You haven't already Voted, Please do so!

In these Post's, I will write a few Facts, Figures, Stats and Interesting Stuff on the Artist in Question, I will also include a Playlist of their 20 Greatest Songs.

I will Write a Post on each Artist in Order of "Top to Bottom" of the Poll!

ARTIST NUMBER 10..............FRANKIE BEVERLY

Frankie Beverly was Born on 6th December 1946 in the US City of Philadelphia PA.

As a Young Boy he Sung Gospel Music in his Local Church, and by the time he Reached his Teenage Years, He had Formed a Doo-Wop Group by the Name of "The Blenders"

The Group did not Last too long and by 1963, Frankie Beverly had Formed another Band by the name of "The Butlers"

During the Latter part of the 60's the Band caught the Attention of Kenny Gamble, and went on to Record with Gamble.

But during 1970 another Name Change Happened, this time they Changed it to "Raw Soul"

By 1971 it was Decided that the "Raw Soul" Sound didn't Suit the "Philly Sound" so Frankie Beverly and the Band Re-Located to California, where the Music was more Laid Back!

As the 70's went by, the Band were soon Discovered by the Sister-in-law of Marvin Gaye, and soon after Marvin Gaye was using "Raw Soul" as his Opening Act while on the Road.

Marvin Gaye Loved the band but did not Like their Name, so he Persuaded Frankie Beverly to have another Name Change, and this time it Worked and by 1976 "Maze" had Signed for Capitol Records!

By 1977, Maze Released their Debut Album on "Capitol Records" called Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, it was to Start a Run of Success that had 8 Studio Albums Released over about a 16 Year Period, and all of them Attained "Gold Status"

The Album had 2 Single Releases that were "While I'm Alone" which Reached Number 89 on the US Pop Chart and Number 21 on the US R&B Chart and followed by "Lady of Magic" which Reached Number 108 on US Pop Chart and Number 13 on the US R&B Chart.

Over their Period of Success, Maze only had 2 Number One's on the US R&B Chart, and they were "Back in Stride" in 1985 and "Cant Get Over You" in 1989.

My Favorite 2 Album's by "Maze & Frankie Beverly" were "We Are One" in 1983 and "Cant Stop The Love" from 1985.
Maze were not a Big Recording Band, in fact they only ever Released 10 Albums and 2 of them were Live Recordings!
but they were by Far one of the Best Loved Bands, Especially in the U.K!
